IBADAN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Nigerians including the presidential candidate of African Action Congress (AAC) Omoyele Sowore, and Senator Shehu Sani, have reacted to the altercation between Afrobeats musician Seun Kuti and a Police Officer on Lagos Third Mainland Bridge.
In a trending video, Seun Kuti could be seen pushing and slapping a policeman he was confronting.
It is still unclear what led to the confrontation, but the Police Officer was calm during the incident.
It was also uncertain when this incident occurred, but the person who shared the video on social media claimed it happened on Saturday, 13 May.
Another piece of information disclosed that the policeman allegedly bashed his car. Seun Kuti could be seen with his wife while assaulting the Police Officer.

Omoyele Sowore tweeted: “There is nothing wrong if you admit that you want @realseunkuti
summarily executed because he did not support @peterobi for President, during the 2023 presidential election.
“Even the @PoliceNG agreed to investigate what led to the altercation between @policeng & @realseunkuti on 3rd Mainland bridge earlier today.
“@realseunkuti also accepted to cooperate with investigators, but because he was against
@peterobi you want him executed summarily. suddenly the @policeng that helped @officialABAT
rig election in #Nigeriadecides2023, the police that unjustly executed young Nigerians during #endsars are now your heroes because @real seun kuti is not supporting @peterobi Gotcha moment! Republic of HYPOCRITES.#RevolutionNow”
Twitter critic, Daniel Regha, said Sowore trying to involve Peter Obi & Obidients into the Seun Kuti’s conversation is wrong.
He continued: “People aren’t criticizing Kuti based on his political ideology, but cos him assaulting an officer is unacceptable; Same reason why sensible Nigerians are calling for arrest of MC Oluomo.”

In another tweet, Regha said: “Seun Kuti has no right whatsoever to assult a uniform officer, he could’ve simply reported the policeman for being incompetent but didn’t; Hope he pays for this. The police should also order the arrest of Mc Oluomo & have him prosecuted, his crimes are worse than that of Kuti.”
Senator Shehu Dani compared Seun Kuti’s incident to that of journalist Rufai Oseni.
He tweeted: “When it happened to my friend Rufai Oseni and now it happened to my musician Seun Kuti,I read the comments and I can see that most people are biasly softer and more tolerant & forgiving to the people they love. That’s why the Heart is made of soft tissues and no bones.”
Legal counsel, Sir Lawrence Okoro disagreed with Sen. Sani’s comment and said: “Dear @ShehuSani, equating this Seun Kuti’s blatant physical assault on a Police officer to the verbal engagement of Rufai Oseni is an unmatched and wicked comparison.
“You don’t draw the “bias lines” because you also carry the heart made of soft tissues without bones. What’s the point of licking Seun’s ass when the visuals are there for all to see.
“If I watch a video of my Father, Brother, You, Peter Obi, Rufai Oseni or anyone else assault anyone, Police officer, Ice cream seller or anyone, I will stand on the side of Justice, like I’m firmly doing in this case.”
@JakesOlasupo tweeted: “When it happened to Funke Akindele after flaunting covid restriction law. People defending the government weren’t soft on her either. Now, their musician is at the receiving end, and they want a soft landing for him.”

Journalist David Hundeyin on his part said: “Apparently Seun Kuti during the altercation with the police officer told him “I will kill you and nothing will happen in this Nigeria.
“That’s the word from a reliable source who saw the written statement by the cop. Cannot say I am surprised at all.”
Showing support for Seun Kuti after he was caught on camera assaulting a Nigerian policeman in Lagos on Saturday, Peter Okoye tweeted: “Quite an unfortunate incident and from reports, it seems Seun’s family was in danger hence the altercation.
“When you understand what happens when a man is put in a situation to protect his family form any form of danger, our emotions get the better of us.
“I ask and plead that the #NigerianPoliceForce accept our unreserved apologies for the unfortunate outburst and tamper justice with mercy. Family🙏🏽❤️ #LoveLeads”
