LAGOS, Nigeria (VOIC OF NAIJA)- A 51-year-old Man, Eze Dickson, has been arraigned by a Magistrate’s court sitting, in Ogba, Lagos, for attempting to kidnap one Betty Ikeka for a ransom of $2,000,000,00 (about N1billion).
The suspect is said to have committed the crime on 24 March, in the isheri axis of the State.
Dickson had reportedly abducted Betty under false pretense and repeatedly made calls to her relatives demanding for the ransom and threatening to cause bodily harm to her if not paid within the stipulated time.
The Police Command in Panti Police station were however alerted by the victim’s family. The Police operatives tracked the kidnapper’s location to Isheri Odofin and Dickson was arrested.
The defendant was earlier today arraigned before Magistrate Bambo Odueke facing a one-count charge bordering on attempted unlawful kidnap.
Police Prosecutor, Barr. Nosa Watson stated that the offense is punishable under section 406(1) of the criminal law of Lagos state, 2015.
In reaction to the defense counsel’s plea to handle the case in the most liberal terms, Magistrate Odueke, granted the defendant bail of N500,000 with two sureties gainfully employed.
He added that the defendant remain in custody pending fulfilment of bail conditions.
The case was adjourned till 13 June for hearing.
