ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Jigawa State Police have apprehended an 18-year-old boy, Safiyanu Lawan, for allegedly orchestrating his own abduction in an attempt to extort money from his father.
According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the incident occurred on April 19, 2024 around 14:30 when Alhaji Lawan Dankoli of Kiyawa LGA reported to the State Intelligence Department (SID) Dutse that his son, Safiyanu Lawan, went out for shopping in preparation for school resumption but did not return.

Later the same day, at approximately 23:20, an unidentified individual repeatedly called Alhaji Lawan Dankoli with an unknown number, threatening that Safiyanu had been kidnapped.
Upon receiving the report, a team of Policemen from the State Intelligence Department (SID) Dutse promptly investigated the matter and apprehended a 27-year-old man named Abdulrazak Salisu of Zango quarters, Kiyawa LGA, in connection with the case.
During interrogation, Abdulrazak Salisu confessed to knowing Safiyanu’s whereabouts and admitted to conspiring with him to extort money from his father.
The police swiftly located and arrested Safiyanu Lawan at the mentioned location. Investigations are ongoing, and both suspects will face prosecution.
