A woman has been arrested in Chicago, after an hour-long standoff with SWAT officers, for entering Trump International Hotel and Tower armed with a rifle.
The woman brandished the firearm as she entered Trump International Hotel and Tower around 11.35am on Wednesday, two Police sources told to the Chicago Sun-Times.
Cops were called to an apartment on the 27th floor of the skyscraper where a woman reportedly went after saying ‘she was tired of being abused by her husband’, the newspaper reported.
The woman was taken into custody and transported to a hospital to be evaluated, police said. No one was injured and there was no threat to the public.
Earlier reports indicated that it was a domestic-related incident and not tied to terrorism.
The incident came a day after former President Donald Trump was charged with 34 felony counts for his alleged role in a hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels to silence her on her claims of an affair.
Cops confirmed to NBC Chicago that they received a call of service to the skyscraper at 401 N Wabash Avenue in the downtown, but did not provide further information.
Law enforcement, including SWAT officers, were concentrated at the entrance of Trump Tower by Kinzie Street and Wabash Avenue.
Traffic was closed in both directions on Wabash Avenue between Hubbard Street and Wacker Drive, according to Total Traffic.
There was no indication that the incident at Trump Tower in Chicago was related to Trump’s historic arraignment on Tuesday that drew a sizable crowd of his supporters and opponents outside Manhattan Criminal Court. Trump is the first former US president to face criminal charges and pleaded not guilty to all counts.
Trump on Wednesday commended the non-violent actions of his supporters and law enforcement and court officials.
“The GREAT PATRIOTS inside and outside of the Courthouse on Tuesday were unbelievably nice, in fact, they couldn’t have been nicer,’ stated Trump. ‘Court attendants, Police Officers, and others were all very professional, and represented New York City sooo well. Thank you to all!”
