LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – The Police Command in Oyo State reports that it has detained 11 suspects in possession of nine dry human skulls, one fresh human head, intestines, and other essential body parts.
SP Adewae Osifeso, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, made this disclosure on Thursday while briefing journalists.
Osifeso, who revealed that the suspects were detained in their hideout in the Orita-Aperin neighborhood of Ibadan, also revealed that 16 other people had been detained for alleged kidnapping and armed robbery.
According to him, a Police monitoring unit’s covert information gathering on 22 February, revealed the suspects’ criminal activity.
He claimed that the accused were experts at supplying human skulls and other organs for ritual purposes.
The PPRO said the 11 members of the criminal gang had all confessed to the crime upon interrogation.
‘’The suspects confirmed that the fresh human heads and other body parts were gathered from victims after they had been killed by their kingpin, identified as Amuludun, who is still at large, and that the dry human skulls were harvested from corpses at burial grounds,” he said.
In order to apprehend the fleeing suspects, Osifeso stated that an investigation is underway and the public would be informed of any subsequent developments.
One of the suspects, also the wife of the main suspect who is currently at large, claimed that she was shocked to see human skulls in her husband’s office because she knew he was an Islamic cleric.
She said she went to her husband’s office to collect money for foodstuffs when the police came and searched the office where the skulls were found.
The command’s spokesman added that seven alleged armed robbers who invaded the Felele neighborhood in Ibadan brandishing firearms and other deadly weapons have been apprehended.
