Barbadian singer, Robyn ‘Rihanna’ Fenty revealed she is pregnant with her second child as she took the 2023 Super Bowl halftime by storm on Sunday night.
She wowed the crowd with her first live performance in seven years.
The multiple award-winning singer became the first pregnant woman to star in the halftime show.
Rihanna’s tight clothing suggested a baby bump and sparked off a wave of social media speculation.
After the show concluded, Rihanna’s representative confirmed the singer was pregnant.
“They’re just like any other pair of parents-to-be. Yes, they happen to be famous, but they’re just the cutest, giddiest young couple that’s expecting kids.”
The singer, who is expecting a second baby with rapper A$AP Rocky, had hinted at her big surprise before she took the stage at Super Bowl 2023.
Speaking to CBS Sports, Rihanna said she was “thinking about bringing someone” out during her halftime performance.
However, the 34-year-old managed to sidetrack everyone, giving the assumption she was talking about a surprise musical guest.
“I’m not sure. We’ll see,” she teased while speaking with the outlet.
She also joked that “it wouldn’t be a surprise” if she spoiled who she was considering sharing the stage with on Sunday.
According to a source who attended the singer’s press conference on Friday, “nobody knew” that Rihanna was pregnant before she took the stage. “She totally hid it,” says the source.
The 34-year-old 2023 Super Bowl Halftime performer took the stage in Phoenix Sunday dressed head-to-toe in bright red, revealing a baby bump.
Rihanna played up the big reveal in the opening moments of her performance, rubbing her stomach and leaving the zipper of her outfit — a jumpsuit layered over a close-fitting bodysuit and sculpted bandeau — down to reveal her belly.
The Barbadian singer began her 13-minute halftime show on a suspended platform singing “B** Better Have My Money” in a cotton canvas flight suit.
The garment was almost entirely unzipped to reveal a matching silk jersey catsuit and sculpted leather corset and, of course, a baby bump, as later confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.
All three garments were custom-designed by Jonathan Anderson, creative director of Spanish label Loewe.
The fashion house, which debuted a similar looking red breastplate as part of its Spring 2022 ready-to-wear collection, said her look had been inspired by flight gear and was “designed to build volume in step with the dynamic scenography of the show.”
Rihanna completed the outfit with a pair of red sneakers from Maison Margiela’s collaboration with sport shoe brand, Salomon. Over the top, she wore a leather puffer scarf with integrated gloves by Alaïa, the label founded by late Tunisian couturier Azzedine Alaïa.
The 34-year-old soon discarded the scarf, before embarking on a medley of hits including “Rude Boy” and “Umbrella.” But she was back in another Alaïa piece for the finale, “Diamonds.”
This time it was a red leather maxi puffer coat — also with integrated gloves — designed by the label’s creative director Pieter Mulier.
