The Lagos State government has shut down Chrisland Schools over the death of one of its students, Omodesola Whitney Adeniran on Thursday, 9 February.
The institution, located in the Opebi area of the metropolis, was shut down by the State government as the parents and concerned Nigerians demand justice for the 12-year-old girl who allegedly slumped and died during the school’s inter-house sport at Agege Stadium.
According to reports, the 12-year-old student left home for the school’s inter-house sport but died without the school management informing her quickly about the unfortunate incident.
However, the school claimed otherwise.
Reacting to the issue, the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, in a statement signed by her on Sunday, ordered the closure of the facility “pending the outcome of a full investigation into the unfortunate incident.”
The Commissioner commiserated with the parents of the deceased, praying “for the repose of her soul.”
“We also note the impact of this unfortunate event on family, friends and acquaintance of Whytney and call for calm as we assure that no effort will be spared in investigating the incident,” Mrs. Adefisayo stated.
Recall that the State government also shut down the school indefinitely last year following a controversy generated over an “immoral act” engaged in by students of the school during a trip to Dubai.
Pupils from the elite private school located in Victoria Garden City had embarked on a trip to Dubai to participate in the World School Games between 10 and13 March, 2022 when the incident happened.
Following the incident, the school authorities suspended the student indefinitely, stating that she was “a major actor” in an “immoral act”.
But the mother of the student claimed that her daughter was drugged and raped by some male students of the school.
