ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- A socio-political group with the name, Rescue Nigeria Economy Project (RNEP) has challenged Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state to announce his preferred presidential candidate as he had promised to do.
The group appealed to him to take out more time to address any issue, if need be, hut should communicate to Nigerians before the January deadline he gave expires.
The group made the claims in a statement signed by its Executive Secretary, Dennis Alam-George.
Recall that Governor Wike had said he would make his preferred presidential candidate known in January 2023.
The Rivers Governor also said that he would campaign for his adopted candidate nationwide.
Wike during the commissioning of the tenth flyover by his administration in the Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers, said: “From January next year, I will campaign to my people whom they will vote for.
āSo, all of you who have been in suspense, who have been saying all kinds of things, abusing me, wait. January is here.
āNot only will I tell them (my people) whom to vote, I will move from state to state (for campaigns) and why they should vote for the person, nothing will happen.”
RNEP, however, expressed fear that Wike may lose the respect of many Nigerians, especially the people of Rivers if he fails to honour his words.
The group said: āWith today being the 30th day of January 2023, we hereby call on Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike not to forget his promise to name his preferred presidential candidate in January. He shouldnāt disappoint Nigerians who have been kept in suspense since he made the comment.
āWhile we agree with the fact that the month of January ends on Tuesday the 31st, we are through this statement reminding the governor to live up to his words and announce his preferred presidential candidate and campaign with him nationwide as promised.
āHowever, if he feels there are still issues to be ironed out and need more time for an extension just like the Central Bank of Nigeria did with the Naira redesign, he should say so now before the January deadline he gave expires.ā
