ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The youth leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State, has been reportedly killed by gunmen.
The APC youth leader, Lucky Idoko, hailed from Unadu, a community in the council area.
Idoko before his death, represented the community as a councilor.
The victim, who was the chairperson of a local vigilante group, was shot dead in the community on Saturday, 8 October, 2022, while travelling on a commercial motorcycle.
The motorcyclist conveying him was said to have escaped unhurt.
Sources revealed that there were speculations in the community that the incident must have been an assassination.
Confirming the incident, the police spokesperson in Enugu State, Daniel Ndukwe, said: “The command has launched an investigation into the case of the alleged shooting and murder of one Lucky Idoko.”
The insecurity situation is worsening in Enugu recently as the state has witnessed increase in deadly attacks.
The latest incident is the attack on Inyi Police Divisional Headquarters in Oji River Local Government Area of the state, which led to the killing of a policeman and a civilian, at the police facility.
Also, about three weeks ago, gunmen attacked an army checkpoint in Amodu Awkunanaw, a community in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, and killed two persons in the attack.
