IBADAN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- A Twitter user, Lola Lois, has narrated an experience she encountered in a public transport that made her decide never to help a woman lap her child.

She wrote, “One time, a woman pleaded with me to help lap one of her kids cos we was to alight at the same b/stop and i refused, she asked another woman and she agreed (even eyeing me sorta) long story short, we all got down from the bus and the child the woman helped with fell and died.

I was so scared, like the kid was literally lying there lifeless and for no reason, omo they held the woman o (the one that helped)and she was beaten so bad😭. The mother claimed she did something to her child and she was going to hold her responsible.

“Omo since that day, infact carry five kids i can never help you o,if you like say i’m wicked i agree, cos that woman prolly helped innocently and see what happened..it left a kind of trauma for me cl”

The conversation started with a tweep, Moyoxoxo, who said she knows the country is hard but carrying 3 kids to travel and only budgeting for one seat doesn’t make any sense.

The tweep asked who will carry the other 2 for you??

Commenting on Lola Lois’ tweet, @maryianne said, “Thank God someone taught me to reject helping too this year because that particular woman that helped to carry he child disappear when the supposed mother with kids that she helped try to descend from the bus.”

Agboola Starr: “That’s crazy. It’s probably a scam. That woman will be forced to drop a huge sum of money and then the child would get up after certain conditions are met. Someone had a similar experience with these kinda people one time.
Although I may be wrong.
Thank God you didn’t fall for it.”

@sirkay_: “I always reject it. I helped one woman lap her daughter one time. She soaked my cloth with more than one liter of urine. Small sorry she didn’t say. They just got down and moved. Adult like me was sitting there with a trouser soaked in pee. I didn’t even know how to feel.”

@irunnia: “I will never forget when i helped a woman to lap her son& she started accusing me of stealing the biscuit she gave him. I denied it.

They searched my bag & saw the biscuit. She also saw the N500 she gave her son to hold. Till today I don’t know how those things entered my bag😩”

Replying to Lola Lois’ tweet, a tweep, Kelechi Wellington narrated her mom’s experience when she was still very young

She said, “When I was a baby, my mom was a new wife and our neighbor’s niece spent time at our house when her uncle went to work. My mom was home that day and asked her if her Uncle left food at home for her. She answered no. My Mom started making beans for lunch and asked her if she wanted and she said yes, she was hungry. My Dad called my Mom and asked her not to give her food since her guardian wasn’t around. My Mom refused and went ahead to make food for her.

“In my Mom’s defense, it was getting late and it would be unfair that I would eat something while she just watched. Time to have lunch came and we were eating. Thankfully, we ate from the same plate and when we were done eating we started playing. One minute she was okay the next she was complaining about her tummy.

“When her Uncle got back and saw what happened, of course he Asked what she ate and my Mom said beans. She was crying and screaming. Omo everyone was scared then Mom started crying. It’s funny now😂 but that day wasn’t funny. The silver lining was that we ate together. Turns out, her tummy hurt because she hadn’t eaten all day long.

“My Father didn’t say anything he just asked her to stop crying and she kept saying “Wellington told me”😂😂😂. So it’s a family rule now o. I will never give a child food if the parent or guardian isn’t around. I am not sorry. That day lives rent free in my mind. Kids are fragile.”
