ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Anthony Ehilebo, a Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called on Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and other aggrieved members of the party to embrace peace.
Ehilebo made the call on Friday while reacting to the crisis rocking the party, following the calls for the resignation of the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.
Ehilebo appealed to the aggrieved members particularly Governor Wike’s loyalists not to hurt the party while expressing their grievances, saying “you cannot be aggrieved to bite your nose to spite your face”.
Governor Wike had declared that he would work against the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar if his demands including the resignation of Ayu are not met.
The lingering crisis began after Atiku clinched the presidential ticket of the main opposition party during the primary election.
Ehilebo said the most important thing stakeholders of the party should be concerned with is how to win the forthcoming elections, and not the removal of Ayu, Daily Post reports.
He said, “The most important thing is that everybody is a stakeholder in this project. You cannot be aggrieved to bite your nose to spite your face. The most important thing is for us to win an election. We have been out of government for 8 years.
“Do you want to stay for another 8 years? Those people who are saying they will work against the party, are they sure they will have a new home with the people they are going to work with? Are they sure these people are going to deliver the dividends of democracy like PDP did?
“These are unknown factors. Why don’t you work at the party?
“We don’t have a dog at the party. The only person we have is the candidate and we want our candidate to win.
“Ayu is not a dog in the fight. If he has started as the party chairman and produced a candidate, let him deliver the candidate. It’s as simple as that.
“We agitated for the removal of Secondus. We cannot agitate again. We don’t change chairman like that”.
