Greek giants, Olympiacos, have signed Columbia International James Rodríguez from the Qatar Stars League club, Al Rayyan, on loan.
The Piraeus based outfit reportedly reached an agreement with Al Rayyan to acquire the Colombian on loan.
The move will see James line up with former Real Madrid team-mate Marcelo.
According to reports, the move is a loan deal with the player’s salary shared between both clubs.
Transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano announced the new signing on Thursday via Twitter.
He wrote, “James Rodriguez has signed as new Olympiacos player, here we go and confirmed! Deal completed after medical tests done yesterday. 🚨⚪️🔴 #Olympiacos
Next one for Olympiacos: Bakambu on permanent deal from OM, done and confirmed too.”
The Colombian midfielder has made little secret of his desire to return to Europe after his injury hampered spell with Al Rayyan.
Olympiacos appeared to have agreed to pay 40% of the player’s salary with the Qatari side picking up the tab for the remainder of his salary.
Olympiacos will cover €2million (£1.7million), and Al-Rayyan will take the other €4million (£3.5million) of his annual wages.
The loan deal will see James stay with the Greek side through to the end of the 2022-23 season.
Three Colombians have not played with the Piraeus side over the years with James Rodriguez joining a list that features the likes of: Felipe Pardo, Jorge Bermudez, and Juan Pablo Pino.
Rodriguez’s last spell in Europe ended in a bitter split from Everton after he struggled to emulate the performances that saw him once touted as a potential Ballon d’Or winner.
Before his spell on Merseyside, Rodriguez had started for both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
