OGUN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- A mixer truck heading inward the Abule-Egba area of Lagos has cruched a woman to death.
The driver whose identity is yet to be disclosed was seen to be beside the popular Jubilee Bridge, before the truck had a brake failure and in his attempt to control it, it rammed into the yet to be identified woman.
The truck is identified with plate number; KANO MDB 531 XA.
Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, who confirmed the incident, said the woman was trapped under the truck.
According to him: “The trapped female body was evacuated underneath the truck by officials of LASTMA and immediately handed over to policemen from Oko-Oba Police Station.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the mixer truck while on a high speed lost control as a result of a brake failure. In the driver’s bid to swerve into a drainage channel, the truck crushed a woman.
“The truck driver was immediately apprehended by LASTMA officials. Policemen from Oko-Oba Police Station provided security backup while the rescue operations lasted.”
LASTMA’s Abdul Nurudeen from Alpha, Zone 19 Abule-Egba Tollgate, who led the recovery operations said his team was supported by other sympathisers to remove the trapped body.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, however, warned truck owners/drivers to always ensure their trucks are properly checked including the braking system before embarking on any journey within or outside Lagos.
