LAGOS, NIGERIA (VOICE OF NAIJA) – The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has refuted claims linking it to a data breach orchestrated by a private identity verification firm, XpressVerify, affirming the safety of citizens’ data.
In response to an investigative report alleging XpressVerify’s unauthorized access to the national identification numbers (NINs) and personal details of Nigerian citizens, NIMC clarified its stance.
The Director General and CEO, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, emphasized that NIMC solely provides NIN verification and other services through licensed partners, distancing itself from XpressVerify’s activities.

Acknowledging concerns raised by media partners and whistleblowers, NIMC assured the public of the integrity of Nigeria’s National Identity Database, emphasizing that there had been no data breach.
The commission announced the commencement of a thorough investigation into the matter to ascertain if any of its tokenization verification agents breached licensing agreements.
Furthermore, Coker-Odusote underscored NIMC’s commitment to data protection and privacy, asserting stringent security measures in place to safeguard citizens’ information.
