ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Supreme Court, in a unanimous decision by a five-member panel of Justices, has faulted the Nigerian government for the rearrest and extrajudicial rendition of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The court acknowledged that the government acted “irresponsibly” by forcefully bringing Kanu back to Nigeria from Kenya, contravening established laws.

Since his rearrest in 2021, Nnamdi Kanu has remained in the custody of the Department of State Service (DSS), despite an Appeal Court order directing the Federal Government to release him.
The Supreme Court emphasized the need for the government to be conscious of its image, both domestically and internationally, while expressing disapproval of the trial court’s decision to revoke Kanu’s bail after he escaped to safeguard his life following a security agency’s invasion of his home.
