Enugu, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Deputy Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ossai has advised the Enugu residents to embrace Human Papillomavirus Vaccine, (HPV).

Ossai said this while addressing stakeholders from all the senatorial zones of the state, Officers of Catholic Women Deanery Enugu, and Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Enugu State.

He charged women leaders with the responsibility of delivering this vital message to women at all levels, according to a statement issued by Ngozi Ngene, Chairperson NAWOJ, Enugu State chapter, on Wednesday.

Ossai noted that the meeting is targeted at acknowledging women as essential keys in unlocking resistance to vaccine and also, empower the women to use their platforms to ensure the success of the vaccine.

The Enugu Deputy Governor further hinted on the need for all stakeholders, especially mothers to welcome this development and immunize their children between the ages of nine years to fourteen years.

According to him, the Human papillomavirus vaccine has been tested and confirmed by the World Health Organization advisory committee and NAFDAC certifying the effectiveness and safety of the drugs to human beings.

Ossai stressed that the HPV works best between the ages of 9 and 14 years and is used to prevent diseases when children are vaccinated before being exposed to an infection.

He advised people especially women who are much closer to their children to embrace this development, saying that it is safe, and effective and serves as best way to prevent more people from getting cancer.

The Deputy appealed to people to disregard myths, rumors shared on social media, blogs, and alternative websites that make claims that scare people away from these life-saving vaccines.

On her part, the Executive Director of Primary Health Care in the State Dr Ifeyinwa Ani-osheku gave valuable insights into the States Human Papillomavirus Vaccine campaign.

Ani-osheku narrated the achievements and challenges encountered in the vaccine rollout, this is as she enlightened the audience on the vaccine’s safety and usefulness.
