LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) –Nurses and midwives in Kaduna state have reportedly abandoned the hospitals for lack of proper welfare package.
The Chairman, Nurses and Midwives Association, Kaduna State Chapter, Ishaku Yakubu made the disclosure on Saturday during the Nurses and Midwives Annual General Meeting, which was held at the Asaa Pyramid Hotel in Kaduna.
According to Yakubu, āKaduna State is one of the states that pay poor salaries to nursesā¦
āTo stop this, the state must improve on the welfare of nurses in the for effective health care delivery.ā

However, he commended the Kaduna State Governor for his pledge to revamp six General Hospitals in the state while calling for the recruitment of more nurses and midwives across the state.
Responding, Umma reiterated the commitment of the State Government to support the Kada Nurses and Midwives Empowerment Initiative scheme.
Umma said aside from being pleased to see the emphasis that the Kada Nurses and Midwives Multi-purpose Cooperative Society places on empowerment and solidarity among its members.
āCooperatives like this play a crucial role in fostering collaboration, sharing knowledge, and supporting one another in times of need by pulling resources and working together which not only enhances livelihood but also strengthens the fabric of the healthcare system as a whole.ā
Continuing, she stressed that the āEnd-well schemes are key as we see them in other states,ā stressing that the scheme has been sustained in Niger State until you exit service.ā
