HATFIELD, United Kingdom (VOICE OF NAIJA) – British singer Ed Sheeran has shed light on a less-publicized aspect of his work with Afrobeats music star Burna Boy.
Ed Sheeran, in a recent interview with Conan O’Brien, opened up on the amount of weed that Burna Boy consumes.
The Grammy Award winner, who has had international collaborations and has worked with his Nigerian counterpart Burna Boy on songs like ‘Burna Boy – For My Hand feat. Ed Sheeran’, STORMZY – OWN IT (feat. ED SHEERAN & BURNA BOY), narrates how his studio was puffed with smoke from Burna Boy.
Ed Sheeran further compared the amount of weed that Burna Boy smokes to that of American singer Snoop Dogg, referring to the Nigerian singer, as the only person he’s known ingesting so much weed.
“There’s an artist that I work quite a lot with called Burna Boy and I’d said he’s… that’s the most I have ever seen anyone ingest weed…” And I work as I said 10-5 and he came to the studio and I had a gig later on, and it was very much the studio doors closed and just smoke smoke…that’s the most I’ve seen anyone ingest weed.”
Ed Sheeran shared an interesting anecdote from his Australian performance last March noting that backstage at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, he was joined by Snoop Dogg and actor Russell Crowe.
True to Snoop’s reputation, he invited them to indulge in some cannabis. Sheeran recounted this to Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend podcast and humorously teased American singer Snoop Dogg in the process.
“I don’t really smoke at all. I was in the dressing room, and they’re just blunt after blunt after blunt. I was like, I guess at some point during the night, I have to, just to say I smoked with Snoop Dogg…
“He was like, ‘Do you want some?’ and I was like, now’s the time. We were having a good conversation.
So I have a bit, and I was like, I don’t feel too bad, this is good. Then I have a bit more, and then I have a bit more, and then I have a bit more. I just remember looking at him and being like, I can’t see right now.”
Some netizens aren’t that happy with the situation.
An “X” user @victor fidelis said, “I don’t know why everybody is happy here but this ain’t a bragging right. You can see Ed Sheeran wasn’t comfortable with it and perhaps Excessive intake of everything ain’t good …Carbon monoxide for that matter.
@Whizkid Soldier said, “Why you think say him name na “Burna” Oluwa Burna”, he has a smoking super power.”
@SharonGold on her part said, “I think Burnaboy loves weed more than he loves women.”
Ed Sheeran, known for his soulful ballads and chart-topping hits, has amassed a massive following with his melodic tunes and relatable lyrics. Burna Boy, on the other hand, hails from Nigeria and is a global icon in the Afro-fusion genre.
His music is a compelling blend of African rhythms, reggae, and hip-hop, and he has won multiple awards, including the Grammy for Best Global Music Album.
