LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new feature that would give users more control over their locked chats.
The feature, referred to as “secret code,” would allow users to choose a custom password for their protected chat folder, adding an extra layer of security for sensitive conversations.
This upcoming security feature was spotted in WhatsApp for Android beta version 2.23.21.9, available through the Google Play Beta program.
Users who enable this feature will be able to enter their secret code to access locked chats via the search bar in the app.
Additionally, configuring a secret code will reportedly enable users to lock chats from companion devices.

While the feature is currently not available for testers, it is expected to be released in a future update of the app.
WhatsApp suggests using a word or simple emoji for quick access to the secret code, and users may have the flexibility to change or remove the code at any time.
WhatsApp introduced the Chat Lock feature earlier, allowing users to lock specific chats using fingerprint, facelock, or passcodes to keep their messages and conversations private and secure.
This feature moves locked chat threads to a separate folder, ensuring the privacy of conversations, even if someone gains access to the user’s phone.
Notifications from locked chats do not display the sender’s name or message preview.
