LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) WhatsApp is currently testing new features in its beta versions, including chat pinning, a username picker, and IP address protection.
In the beta version of Android 2.23.21.4, users can pin chats to the top of group chats for up to 30 days. The update also brings a redesigned share sheet to the app.
Additionally, WhatsApp is working on a username picker feature, allowing users to select a username to share with others, potentially eliminating the need to share phone numbers for communication.

This username will be optional and customizable, and it’s expected that users will be able to change their usernames.
To enhance privacy during calls, WhatsApp is introducing an IP address protection feature, which will relay calls through the company’s server to prevent revealing IP addresses.
However, enabling this feature may slightly reduce call quality.
These features are currently being tested in the beta versions of WhatsApp for both Android and iOS, with no official release date announced for the stable versions.
