ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- In a significant legal development, the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, convened in Abuja, has firmly upheld the victory of Governor Simnalayi Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This decision comes after an arduous legal battle initiated by Beatrice Itubo, the Labour Party (LP) gubernatorial candidate, who sought to challenge the legitimacy of the 2023 election results.
The tribunal, comprising a distinguished panel of three members presided over by Justice Cletus Emifonye, delivered a resounding verdict by dismissing the LP’s petition on the grounds of lacking merit and insufficient evidence to substantiate their allegations.

Beatrice Itubo, the LP candidate, had contested the election results, alleging irregularities, electoral malpractices, and improprieties during the gubernatorial election.
However, despite a rigorous legal battle and extensive presentations, the LP’s case was unable to convince the tribunal of the validity of their claims.
This landmark decision by the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has solidified Governor Simnalayi Fubara’s position as the rightful winner of the election.
It reaffirms the credibility of the electoral process and sets a precedent for the importance of evidence in election-related petitions.
