LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) Carlo Ancelotti has addressed the speculation surrounding Xabi Alonso’s possible appointment as the next manager of Real Madrid.

Alonso, currently in charge of Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, has been linked to the Real Madrid managerial role, potentially succeeding Ancelotti.

Ancelotti, who previously managed Alonso during his tenure at Real Madrid from 2013 to 2015, commended the former Real Madrid star and expressed his hope that Alonso would return to the club as a manager in the future.

Speaking to reporters, Ancelotti remarked, “I had him (Alonso) as a player. He possesses an extensive knowledge of football and is performing admirably with Bayer Leverkusen.

“I wish for him to be here one day, similar to RaĂşl or Arbeloa. They are individuals I am acquainted with, and I hold great affection for them. I hope that one day they can become coaches for Real Madrid.”

The Italian coach also reaffirmed his contentment with his current position as the manager of Real Madrid, stating, “Everyone knows that I am very content here. I feel quite comfortable here, but it’s not the most significant topic for discussion (contract renewal).

“We have numerous matches to focus on. Criticism doesn’t affect me at all. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but I must concentrate on my duties.”

Ancelotti, 64, has a contract that concludes at the end of the current season, and there have been rumours linking him to the role of Brazil’s national team manager.

Meanwhile, Alonso assumed his role at Leverkusen in October 2022, achieving a 52% win rate in the matches he has overseen.

His team is currently sharing the top spot in the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich, each accumulating 13 points from the initial five games.

After a humbling 3-1 loss in the Madrid derby, Real Madrid is aiming for a strong resurgence when they face Las Palmas in La Liga on Wednesday.
