LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) Newcastle United handed Sheffield United an astonishing 8-0 defeat, marking the Blades’ most crushing loss since 1933, a staggering 90 years ago.
The Magpies were an unstoppable force as they dominated the Premier League clash at Bramall Lane on Sunday evening.
This marked the first time in nearly a century that Sheffield United conceded eight goals in a league match, with the previous occurrence being a 10-3 defeat to Middlesbrough in November 1933.
In addition, this historic loss stands as their largest-ever defeat in league history, coming in their 4,988th game.
Following the demoralizing defeat, manager Paul Heckingbottom expressed his disappointment to reporters, saying:

“It’s the nature of the performance that we’re upset about… We can’t afford to put ourselves behind in that fashion if we want to compete.”
Heckingbottom particularly singled out the second half for criticism, emphasizing the need to learn from their mistakes.
He added, “A lot of things I saw in the second half, I’ve never seen here.“
Newcastle’s extraordinary victory featured eight different goal scorers, setting a competition record.
Despite their midweek fixture in the Champions League, fatigue was no issue as they surged to a 3-0 lead by halftime.
In the second half, they piled on five more goals, compounding Sheffield United’s misery. The Blades have yet to secure a victory this season.
Heckingbottom now has nearly a week to regroup and rectify their errors before his team heads to London to face West Ham next Saturday.
