LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) The Dutch Football Federation has announced that the remaining 35 minutes of the Ajax vs. Feyenoord match will take place behind closed doors.
During the Sunday clash, Ajax found themselves 3-0 down to their Rotterdam rivals in front of their home crowd.
Some passionate Ajax supporters threw flares onto the field at Amsterdam’s Johan Cruyff Arena, resulting in the match being halted twice before the referee ultimately called it off.
According to the KNVB, in such situations, “a match should preferably be decided on the pitch… the match must then be resumed as soon as possible.”

Following the disruption, enraged Ajax fans damaged the stadium entrance and clashed with mounted police, leading to the use of tear gas to disperse the crowd.
These regrettable events mark a low point in Ajax’s recent troubles, both on and off the pitch, for the four-time European Cup champions.
Reports suggest that Ajax is currently hesitant to accept the Dutch association’s proposed solution, citing the volatile situation, while Feyenoord prefers the match to resume sooner rather than later.
The match is likely to recommence on Wednesday, September 27, picking up from where it was suspended after 55 minutes.
