LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the alleged suicide of a 17-year-old boy, Betwom Bitrus, a resident of Bombar in Bogoro Local Government Area of the State.
Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, SP Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the incident to journalists on Wednesday night.
According to him, the deceased left home to go to a stream in the area to take his bath but did not return home.
He further disclosed that the family went out to search for him, and eventually found his lifeless body hanging on a tree in a bush.

“We received a report from a Good Samaritan that today being 13 September, at about 3.00 pm, on the 12 September at about 5.00 pm, his nephew, one Betwom Timothy who is 17 years old, left home to take a bath at the stream but he did not return home.
“So, the family organized a search team for him, and they eventually found his body hanging on a tree with a sponge and faeces on his trousers in a nearby bush in Bogoro town.
“On receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Auwal Muhammad, directed the DPO Bogoro Division and detectives should move to the scene and they evacuated the body to the General Hospital, Bogoro, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead on arrival.
“His remains were given to the family for burial,” he disclosed.
Wakil said that the Command wishes to commiserate with the family of the deceased and prayed that God Almighty will grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

“The Command is using this medium to call parents and guardians to maintain strict vigilance on the activities of their children and wards. It is now pertinent more than ever before that their whereabouts and the company they keep are constantly in check by all those responsible.
“Community leaders and elders should also keep an eye on what is happening in their communities and ensure that they handle any situation before it degenerates,” he admonished.
Also confirming the incident, a resident of Bombar, who pleaded anonymity, said the incident had thrown them into mourning.
He said,“Yes, I want to tell you that a young man committed suicide, and we don’t know why. We are in a sad mood right now. He was last seen with friends yesterday evening. As I am talking to you, his burial has been done.”
The resident further stated that efforts are ongoing to get vital information from friends he was last seen with to ascertain what led to the sad incident.
