LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) Rachel Riley has raised concerns about Manchester United’s due diligence process in light of disturbing domestic abuse allegations against Antony.
The Red Devils signed the Brazilian international from Ajax for Ā£85 million ($107 million) in the summer of 2022.
Antony has faced challenges on the field at Old Trafford, and now, he is making headlines for troubling reasons off the field.
His ex-girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin, has filed an official complaint with police in Sao Paulo, detailing physical and emotional abuse she allegedly endured from him.
Cavallin claims that Antony violently attacked her during her pregnancy, causing severe injuries, and making threats to her life.

Antony, who denies these allegations, has been removed from the latest Brazil squad after the shocking story emerged.
Manchester United supporter Rachel Riley has now expressed her perspective on this distressing situation, questioning how the Premier League club determined Antony as a suitable addition to their squad.
The British television and radio presenter took to social media to voice her concerns, saying, “Is anyone doing any due diligence on these players?
“Heinous stuff is described in these accusations. This time, domestic abuse experts need to be involved in the club’s processes.”
Riley had previously criticized Manchester United’s handling of the Mason Greenwood case, and she had even threatened to withdraw her support for the club if the 21-year-old forward, who had faced charges of attempted rape, controlling behavior, and assault (later dropped in February), remained on the club’s roster.
In a separate incident, Riley parted with the shirt given to her by Ryan Giggs on the occasion of her 1,000th Countdown episode.
