LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Nashville’s Dax McCarty secured Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami jersey after enduring a forceful kick to the groin from the soccer legend during the League Cup final.
Despite the Leagues Cup final loss to Inter Miami in a penalty shootout, McCarty found solace in leaving the stadium with Messi’s jersey in his possession.
The renowned Argentine forward impressed with a stunning opening goal and displayed exceptional performance throughout the match.
As is customary, a scramble for Messi’s jersey takes place among rival players after the final whistle, and this time, the 36-year-old seasoned midfielder emerged as the fortunate recipient.

McCarty shared an image of himself wearing Messi’s jersey and commented, “The night wasn’t a complete loss.”
However, the defeat in the final to Inter Miami was a bitter pill for McCarty, as expressed in a separate post on X: “The outcome certainly stings, but I couldn’t be prouder of our team and our city.
Our response after the GOAT showcased his extraordinary skills was commendable. This group embodies remarkable character.
“It’s painful, yet we will use this experience to grow. Countless wonderful nights and memories await us.”
Messi is set to return to action for Inter Miami in the U.S. Open Cup semi-final against Cincinnati on Wednesday evening. Meanwhile, McCarty will step onto the field for Nashville in an upcoming MLS match against Atlanta United on Saturday.
