LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Snapchat is poised to further extend its reach into the realm of generative AI capabilities, building upon the earlier introduction of its AI-powered chatbot, My AI.
This chatbot can offer responses in the form of both text and Snaps. The forthcoming feature named “Dreams” in the generative AI space will see Snapchat delve into creating AI-generated images that could include users and their friends against imaginative backdrops.
The company has been diligently working on functionalities that enable users to either capture or upload selfies.
Subsequently, the app would utilize these selfies to generate fresh images of users placed in envisioned scenarios. This insight comes from research conducted by app developer and researcher Steve Moser.
This concept mirrors what several other AI-driven photo apps available on the App Store have already offered.

One such app, Remini, recently gained considerable traction on TikTok. It allows users to upload selfies to receive professionally enhanced portraits suitable for platforms like LinkedIn, eliminating the need for an expensive professional photoshoot.
Snapchat, however, is thinking beyond the conventional headshot approach. The “Dreams” feature envisions utilizing AI-generated selfies to position users within imaginative and extraordinary settings. Moser’s research sheds light on this creative aspect.
Much like other AI-powered selfie applications, Snapchat would mandate the provision of clear selfies to yield high-quality outcomes—selfies devoid of obstructions or other individuals within the frame.
The app will also provide guidance to users, emphasizing the importance of diverse angles, expressions, and lighting conditions to enhance the quality of AI-generated photos.
Parallel to integrating oneself into these AI-generated “Dreams,” Snapchat is concurrently developing “Dreams with Friends.”
This feature would empower users to grant their friends permission to craft AI-generated “dream” images featuring both users, as uncovered by Moser.

The presence of references to purchasing “Dream Packs” within Snapchat’s app hints at the possibility of this feature evolving into a monetizable aspect in due course.
In an earlier instance this year, reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi initially uncovered the concept of “Dreams.”
It became evident that the feature would facilitate users incorporation of their own likeness into AI-driven realms.
The prominent positioning of this nascent feature within Snapchat’s app, nestled between Camera Roll and Stories, underscores the company’s determined progression with this initiative.
Snapchat, however, refrains from providing specifics about its precise intentions for the “Dreams” feature.
