Some netizens have slammed a pregnant woman with a heart condition for refusing Cesarean Section (CS) eventually leading to her death because her husband “had an agreement with God that she will deliver normally.”
A Ghanaian doctor, Dr. Wilberforce, has narrated via Twitter, how his client who has a heart condition died along with her baby, after refusing an elective Cesarean Section (C/S) because her husband insisted on vaginal delivery.
The doctor said the woman was offered a CS because her frail heart wouldn’t endure the stress of labour.
The woman said she needed to discuss the issue with her husband but never returned until weeks later.
The baby had died and the woman suffered a cardiac arrest leading to her death.
He tweeted: “Client was offered an ELECTIVE (pre-planned] C/S because she has a heart condition. Her frail heart would simply NOT withstand the distress of labor and vaginal delivery!

“Her reply: “I need to tell hubby about all this first,” and she left, the doctor narrated.
“Never showed up UNTIL Several WEEKS after. This time, in labour; but the baby’s heart had stopped beating. Baby was dead [IUFD], for days, even. When confronted, husband was like: “I had an AGREEMENT with God that my wife will deliver normally
“Long story short, the lady is in the MORTUARY. Her heart gave up – a cardiac arrest
“So a little advice to anyone who might find themselves in this situation, Decisions pertaining your body must be made by only you and you alone. Always put yourself first before the baby. You can always try again if you lose the baby, but if you lose your life, you’re done.”
The report has sparked outrage as netizens blamed the woman for her death while others blamed religion.
A netizen said: “Ok. At least the man will marry another wife. He didn’t agree with God not to do that. Some women are just plain foolish. I have seen a woman almost die in hospital because the husband and mum-in-law told her not to do CS since her pastor said she should not do it. When complications started and this woman almost bled to death, the hubby and mum-in-law were running up and down calling pastor.”
Another netizen said: “Women who can’t reason for themselves are a disgrace to womanhood. They want to appear as the most respectful and homely women to a useless man who wouldn’t mourn you for 2 years before replacing you. Things our mothers did, that didn’t favor them. It ended in beating, cheating, maltreatment, and death.

“Go and do homely in the other side olodo. A man that didn’t carry pregnancy with you is the one dictating how you’ll put to bed, good riddance.”
Adah G cited instances where patients died because of the religious belief. She said: “You people have not seen The Lord’s Chosen member on sick bed before. A woman was brought in unconsciously and she was been treated, but when she woke up 2 hours later, she rejected treatment.
“The members brought accountable yellow Aprons of the church and spread on her. Attempts to convince the husband to talk to her wife to accept treatment proved abortive.
“The doctor was angry and asked her to leave and they left. At one govt hospital Abuja, a Chosen woman refused blood transfusion and CS even when test confirmed her life was at risk. Doctor called the woman’s brother since the husband shares same belief with her, but unfortunately he’s another strong member of Chosen.
“After about 5 hours of hard labour, she died alongside the baby. The worst is Jehovah Witness. One thing that angers me is that these brainwashed people are all adults.
“In extreme cases as this, I think the govt should intervene and arrest some MOG. I know a senior pastor who goes abroad for med checkup while his members are in Nigeria refusing treatment.”
Another user on his part advised institutions to “start teaching critical thinking and common sense from primary school. My mother who is very religious once told me, if God did not want you to think and instead outsource everything to the Holy Spirit, he won’t have given you a brain. Just ask God for wisdom to make the right decisions.”
