ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- In response to the recent subsidy removal, workers and pensioners under the Adamawa State Government will receive a monthly allowance of N10,000, according to the state’s new palliative package revealed in Yola on Wednesday.
The chairman of the committee tasked with determining the package, Dr. Edgar Amos Sunday, made the announcement at the Government House in Yola, stating that the special allowance will be provided for a duration of six months.
As part of the palliative measures, buses will be made available to transport workers between their homes and the state secretariat in Jimeta, where most ministries are situated.
Moreover, the committee disclosed that subsidized inter-local government transport will also be introduced for the public. Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has given the green light for the full implementation of the national minimum wage for local government workers, which will commence next month.
Additionally, the State Governor has approved the purchase of 70 trucks of maize and 20 trucks of rice at subsidized rates for distribution to the people of the State.

Furthermore, 50 trucks of fertilizer will be specifically procured for workers at a subsidized rate.
Commenting on the palliative package, the Adamawa State Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Dauda Aliyu, assured that organized labour will continue to safeguard the interests of workers under its umbrella.
While workers under the state government have been receiving the N32,000 minimum wage (increased to N42,000 for the next six months due to the new palliative), workers under different local government councils had been receiving only their previous remuneration prior to the minimum wage regime.
