LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – TikTok has reportedly announced that it will support text-only postings, making it the newest tech giant to provide an alternative to Twitter, which is already facing backlash.
The text postings on TikTok will most closely mimic comparable options on Instagram, which earlier this month also unveiled Threads as a rival to Twitter, which owner Elon Musk rebranded X.
TikTok has over 1.4 billion active users monthly, and has the same advantages as Meta-owned Threads.
However, unlike Facebook’s parent company, it opted to incorporate its new text-only feature within its app rather than release a separate product, as Meta did with Threads.

Users may add a colored backdrop, music, and stickers to posts on TikTok, which will continue to be more visually appealing than tweets on Twitter or posts on Threads.
The newly introduced format, according to the Chinese-owned corporation, would “expand the boundaries of content creation for everyone on TikTok” and draw on the “creativity” seen in comments and captions.
Smaller systems like Mastodon, Bluesky, and Substack Notes have all arisen as prospective Twitter competitors, in addition to Threads. However, despite Twitter’s difficulties, none of them have managed to unseat it
Approximately half of Twitter’s advertising revenue, according to Musk’s statement from last week, has been lost, creating a market opportunity for rivals.
