ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – There is tension at Osun State Polytechnic, Iree Chapter, as protesters have gathered to express their discontent over the suspension of the institution’s Rector, Dr. Tajudeen Odetayo.
The demonstrators, voicing their solidarity through songs and chants, erected blockades at the main entrance of the campus.
This led to the unfortunate stranding of students who were in the midst of their examinations.
The suspension of Odetayo came as a response to corruption allegations and was officially announced by the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke.
In his stead, Alabi Adeyemi was appointed as the acting rector for the institution.
However, the Academy Staff Union of Polytechnic at the institution viewed this suspension as an aberration, standing in stark opposition to the constitution of the institution.
Expressing their dissatisfaction, Dr. Fatai Afolabi, the Chairman of the union, further declared an indefinite suspension of academic activities within the institution.
