LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Chelsea are allegedly considering making a deal for Harry Maguire after he lost his position as captain at Manchester United.
Erik ten Hag, Red Devils’ boss, has informed the England international that he would no longer serve as the team’s captain at Old Trafford due to his decline in the hierarchy there.
In response to the choice, Maguire stated: “After meetings with the manager today, he has told me he is changing captain.
“While I am personally very upset, he explained his reasoning to me, and I will continue to give it my all each time I wear the shirt despite my disappointment.”
The 30-year-old defender is reportedly prepared to break off his affiliation with United after being left “angry, shocked, and upset” by the decision to remove him from captaincy duties, according to The Sun.
Following his Ā£85 million ($111 million) move to Manchester in 2019, the no-nonsense center-half, who is still the most expensive defender in the world of football, has drawn interest from West Ham, Tottenham, and Newcastle.
After losing Kalidou Koulibaly and Cesar Azpilicueta this summer, it is now being said that Chelsea would be tempted to make a move for Maguire.
“It is said that his asking price might fall as low as Ā£30 million ($39 million) during the current transfer window.
Serie A powerhouse Inter and wealthy Saudi clubs Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal are also reportedly interested in Maguire, who still has two years left on his Old Trafford contract.
It’s possible that Maguire and former United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo could reunite in the Middle East.
