LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Google plans to employ Sreenivasa Reddy, a manufacturing and policy veteran as its senior government affairs executive in that nation to address legal issues and expand hardware production to India.
He is most likely to join Google towards the end of this year, according to persons with knowledge of the situation who asked to remain anonymous since the information is private.
Prior to this, he oversaw government relations at the local branch of Swedish telecom equipment manufacturer Ericsson AB and held top roles on Apple’s India regulatory team, both of which contributed to the growth of domestic manufacturing.
Reddy’s background will be useful to Google, which is looking for partners to produce its Pixel line of smartphones in India as it looks to expand outside of China.
The local production of other Google hardware goods, including speakers, may follow the fabrication of Pixel in India.

Additionally, the executive will support Google in navigating legal difficulties. The Mountain View, California-based business is defending itself against antitrust accusations in India after being charged with exploiting its monopoly status in mobile operating systems.
Requests for comment from Reddy and representatives of Google in India went unanswered. Archana Gulati, who oversaw Google’s strategy for India, left the organization last year.
