ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – The proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has denied claims that it declared a one-week sit-at-home exercise across the South-East.
There have been rumours of a weeklong sit-at-home, starting from 3 July to 10 July, circulating in the social media and across the region.
The promoters of the one week sit-at-home in the audio message which has been circulating for a few days, claimed that the exercise tagged #FreeNnamdiKanu is a move geared towards forcing the Federal Government of Nigeria to release IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of States Services (DSS).

They vowed that there would be dire consequences for anyone who dared to step out on the said dates.
But while dismissing the audio message in a statement on Wednesday, the spokesman for IPOB, Emma Powerful, dissociated the pro-Biafran group from it.
Powerful said the message did not emanate from the group.
“You should know those people declaring the fake sit-at-home, and the criminal who is illegally destroying our land.

“I will issue an official press release against it two days to the date declared in the audio, but for now, the leadership of IPOB has asked me not to give it attention or attraction,” Powerful said.
Recall that IPOB had in 2021, initially declared every Monday a sit-at-home in the South-East, to protest the detention of its leader, but later said it had cancelled it.
However, the people of the region have been observing sit-at-home every Monday for fear of being attacked by gunmen who have been operating in the region for years.
