LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – A former Kano State Governor Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, has expressed concerns over the proposed creation of state police to curb insecurity challenges in the country.
He stated that politicians may use it as a tool to carry out their barbaric operations in the state if not properly implemented.
The former Minister of Education, who spoke on Kano-based Arewa Radio, lamented the series of political dreadful events that happens across the federation.

He said, “Most atrocities are sponsored and promoted by politicians.”
Voiceofnaija.ng had reported that Presidency and all 36 Governors as well as other stakeholders unanimously agreed on the creation of state police over incessant security challenges across the country.
Shekarau declare heavy weight support for state police establishment but, advised the FG not to allow the proposed state police carry firearms.
According to him, the decentralised police should be tailored around the model of the Kano State Hisbah Board, which was used to address cases of social vices during his tenure as Governor.

While commenting on the Federal Government’s student loan policy, Senator Shekarau, the former Education Minister, criticise the policy of the student loan.
He further added that, the students are expected to provide sureties with a certain unrealistic amount of deposits in their bank account.
Lastly, he appealed to the Federal Government to review and strike out conditions in the bill that would make it difficult for Nigerian students to access the loan.
