LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Atletico Madrid spurned the opportunity to overtake Real Madrid and take second place in LaLiga on the final day of the season.
Villarreal’s 2-2 draw was decided by a last-second goal from Jorge Pascual.
After Nicolas Jackson gave Villarreal the early lead, Antoine Griezmann assisted on two goals by Angel Correa.
However, Axel Witsel’s dismissal caused Diego Simeone’s team to come under increasing pressure, which paid off when Pascual scored in stoppage time.

Even though Los Blancos labored to a 1-1 draw with Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, Atletico ended the season one point behind their city rivals in third.
Villarreal took the lead thanks to Pablo Barrios’ mistaken header after nine minutes, which set up Jackson for a strong shot across the goal.
Nine minutes later, Correa converted Griezmann’s deft free kick to give Atletico a point.
The Frenchman again set up Correa, who beat Filip Jorgensen to give the visitors a 2-1 lead after the break.
Witsel was ejected for fouling Giovani Lo Celso while he was the last man, ostensibly sending Atletico into second place.
In the final minutes of the season, Villarreal made the most of their numerical advantage as Pascual converted a rebound to drop Simeone’s team to third.
