IBADAN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Adeola Adeyemi, a Nigerian man based in Canada, has called out Flair Airline for racism and discrimination towards his family.
The man identified as Adeola Omo Adeyemi took to Twitter to reveal that his wife, kid and mother-in-law had boarded a plane with Flair Airlines.
However, they were discriminated against by a passenger and the flight attendants in Canada.
According to Adeyemi, upon boarding the plane, his wife found a passenger already sitting on the exact seat which was assigned to her on her flight ticket.
Adeyemi, in a video trending on Twitter, said that his wife, who had thought this to be a mistake, explained to the passenger that the seat was hers and showed her the seat number on her ticket.
The Caucasian passenger, however, refused to get up from the seat. His wife then approached one for the flight attendants and explained the situation.
The flight attendant, who approached the lady and explained that the seat wasn’t hers, was also rebuffed.
Adeyemi said that rather than call security, they had told his wife to take another seat, but his wife had refused.
The flight attendants began directing the heat on Adeyemi’s wife, as though she were the problem.
The narrator also revealed that his wife was given the middle finger right in front of the crew by the Caucasian passenger, and the attendants did nothing but were threatening to eject his wife from the plane.
He shared images of the Caucasian woman sitting on the seat meant for his wife alongside a caption,
“Racism and Discrimination in Canada.
“This woman took my wife’s seat, refused to get up when approached, gave my wife the middle finger afterwards, and staff of @FlairAirlines did nothing.
“They even threatened to eject my wife, mother and 12 weeks old baby from the plane. For demanding to seat on a seat they paid for!
“This is injustice and no other explanation makes sense other than the fact that it was discriminatory.”
In another tweet, Adeyemi said: “For those asking, I have written to flair airlines and they are yet to respond.
“Might have to write up CTA as well if I don’t get a response from them. @FlairAirlines need to do better.”
His video and tweet have sparked reactions on Twitter with many calling out the management of the airline.
A tweep @OkeyUgwu1 wrote: “The flight attendant is an Indian, another set of horrible racist. So sorry bro that you had to deal with that.”
@PapiGra tweeted: “Imagine telling her to calm down when she was calm. Talk about corporate rascist gaslighting.”
@aaronakpuphillip described the incident as sad.
“So sorry your family went through this brother. So sad indeed. @FlairAirlines do better.”
“@FlairAirlines shame on you! Call your staff to order, do better!” @thejaymizy reacted. While @olique7 told him to return ‘home’ if he is not okay with the middle finger.
“All dis are noting bro, if you not ok with just middle finger come back home, na for Nigeria u go feel am, u go know say all dat is happening in canada is child play.”
Lade advised him to sue the airline, that it’s the only way the discrimination will stop.
“Please sue the airline, that’s the only way this discrimination will eventually stop, most especially for the sake of our coming generations. She had her seat, why take up a black persons seat and think you can bully your way out of it?”
