American rapper, Daniel Hernandez aka Tekashi 6ix9ine was hospitalized after being ambushed by a group of attackers on Tuesday, Variety has confirmed.
The 26-year-old rapper, sustained injuries to his face and bruises, according to his attorney, Lance Lazzaro.
Lazzaro said the rapper was attacked in and outside the LA Fitness gym sauna by three or four men who beat him up, though he tried fighting back. “He had cuts to his face and bruises,” Lazzaro said.
The attorney said that the perpetrators fled after employees heard the disturbance.
A motive for the assault, including whether it was connected to his cooperation with prosecutors, was unclear.
No arrests have been made, and investigators have asked anyone with information to contact them.
Tekashi 6ix9ine, known for his rainbow-colored hair and “69” tattoo on his forehead, previously faced decades in prison as part of a racketeering case in which he was accused of using a violent gang as a “personal hit squad.”
Instead, his sentence was reduced to about two years after his testimony against the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods, earning him a label as a “snitch.”
6ix9ine testimony against his own gang helped convict two high-ranking members and testimony might be linked to the assaulted at a gym in Florida.
