ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, the Benue State Governor-elect, has said he is not the most qualified to lead the State.
According to Fr Alia, God who made him Governor, would qualify him to lead the State.
The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC made this disclosure in his victory speech yesterday.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Alia winner of last Saturday’s governorship election in the State.
Alia defeated his closest rival, Titus Uba of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Herman Hembe of the Labour Party to emerge winner of the poll.
The Catholic priest polled 473,933 votes to defeat Uba his closest opponent who scored 223,913
Delivering his victory speech, he said: “My beloved fellow citizens of Benue State, I stand before you today as the duly elected Governor of Benue state.
“I recognize what an enormous privilege and honour it is to be trusted with the government of the State especially at this time and am deeply conscious of it. I would like to say that God does not call the qualified! He qualifies the called.
“I may not be the most qualified Benue son to lead the State at this time but the Good Lord who has called me will qualify me.”
The priest commended the people of the State for voting massively for him.
“Never in my life have I seen a people express their desires and wishes so passionately as I saw from you in this election,” he added.
