ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), 93million Nigerians registered to vote at this year’s election, but six million of those have not been picked up.
As with reports in the recent past, barely half of those with Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) previous years decided the next leader of Africa’s most populous country. But the narrative may change at this year’s poll.
With three key candidates – one more than the previous two-horse race -leading the charge to become Nigeria’s next President, it looks set to be one of the most exciting election seasons in recent years.
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) respectively, are the leading candidates in the 2023 election.
While there has been a recent revolution of Obidients – supporters of the Peter Obi – the power of incumbency of the APC cannot be undermined as is the force of the PDP in previous elections having themselves being in power for 16 years.
Nigerians will have the singular mandate to, by themselves, determine the country’s next President for the next four years.
Barring unforeseen circumstances and unprecedented vote buying – which is almost inevitable – the results of the elections will be a reflection of the people’s decision.
Who will become Nigeria’s next President?
