LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Several parts of Lagos visited by vocieofnaija.ng correspondents have shown mixed feelings about Lagosians’ preparedness for the 2023 presidential election.
One of the leading contestants in Saturday’s presidential election is Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a former Governor of Lagos State, and Lagosians have been buzzing for him to emerge as President.
Our correspondents covering the election in the State decided to move round the State to feel the pulse of the people and their discoveries were as astonishing as they were unsurprising.
The biggest shocks came from the popular Oshodi and Idumota markets, as many traders had deserted their shops as at Friday evening.
There were visible signs of fear in Oshodi market, however, at the Idumota end of Lagos Island, the market was deserted over the cash crunch situation being experienced in the country.
But in Ikeja, the State capital, there was a lot of activities going on, as commuters still went about their businesses unperturbed.
Our correspondent who visited, noted that the regular buying and selling didn’t reduce, instead, people were more concerned about how to get cash that they’d spend after the election on Saturday.
Banks were crowded from place to place, as people continued hoping for a ‘miracle’ in their quest to withdraw new naira notes from the Automated Teller Machines.
Meanwhile, around LASU-Iyana Iba axis, the Iyana Iba market popularly known to be very crowded is seen to be less crowded with few traders and buyers.
Also known for its congestion of motorcycles, bike riders could hardly get passengers as they are seen calling out to customers.
Moving inward from Iyana Iba to Egbeda Axis was reportedly a swift drive as the expressway appeared free as at the time this report was compiled.
