LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has revealed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has about 800 Nigerians arrested and detained for various offences, particularly Consular issues since October 2022.
NiDCOM, in a warning to Nigerians traveling to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, stated that the Saudi authorities have intensified their crackdown on unauthorized immigrants without proper documentation.
The organization’s attention had been directed to a notification from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation of Saudi Arabia, who are stepping up their crackdown on foreigners living there without legal documentation.
The Saudi Arabian government informed the Federal Government in a letter that 45,458 foreigners are present in the nation for a variety of reasons, including attempts to cross the border illegally, violations of residency laws, and irregular migration for labor-related offenses.
The letter further reveals that since the crackdown in October 2022, Saudi Arabia Government has arrested and detained about 800 Nigerians for a variety of offenses, particularly consular matters.
Although, NiDCOM claims the Nigerian Embassy in Saudi is intervening in this matter, the commission urges Nigerians to resist from breaking the laws of other countries and avoid travelling without proper documentation.
