IBADAN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Embattled politician, Doyin Okupe, has predicted that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of Labour Party, will win and lead massively in the South-East region in the 2023 general election.

According to the former presidential aide, the former Anambra governor will get 25 per cent of votes in no less than 24 states in the polls.

Okupe said this in reaction to election projections unfavourable to Obi, which he said ignored many important electoral parameters.

He tweeted: “THISDAY ELECTION CENTER PROJECTIONS. I wish to say categorically and with a very high sense of responsibility and objectivity, that the projections are false, bogus and do not represent the actual situation on the ground across the nation. They are essentially aimed at misinforming the public.

“Peter obi will win and lead massively in the SE averagely (70%) including all states in the SS. In the SW, PO will score min of 40% in Lagos. 25% in ogun, oyo, ekiti& ondo. Osun 15%min.NW 40%min in kaduna & no less than 10% of all the other 6 states mainly because of Igbo residents.

“This Day projections ignored many important electoral parameters that have operated in our polity over more than 60yrs. Without any doubt, PO will score 25 per cent in no less than 24/25 states including Taraba, Adamawa and Gombe, and will lead all the other three numerically. He is the candidate to beat.”

Nigerians on Twitter have since swarmed under his tweets to share their thoughts on the projections.

A tweep, @peppindelaw who called Okupe an ex-convict, had nothing beautiful to say to the politician.

“The ex convict has spoken,” he wrote.

His comment caught Okupe’s attention and he replied: “Even Exconvicts still retain their intellect, knowledge and experience sir!!”

@IamAsiwaju applauded Okupe for his strength in the midst of storm.

“Dr. Okupe, may God grant you the grace to remain strong. I like your response even in the midst of the storm. However, your prediction has a very BIG K-leg sir,” he wrote.

@chibuzorjoel2 said: “You are just doing yourself.Calliing an honorable man who was put to judgement by wicked men an ex-convict? Because he’s working to dethrone an evil system.Your education is worthless.”

@spaceofora backed Okupe: “I already know the following are in the bag for @PeterObi – South South, South East, North Central, More than 35% from South West states is very possible.

“North East and North West are wild cards, that would reinforce @PeterObi’s victory. % TBD later.”
