IBADAN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Nigerian dancehall singer, Ahmedu Augustine Obiabo, aka Blackface, has called out music heavyweights Wizkid and Burna Boy for sampling his song without giving him credit.
The former Plantashun boiz member, on his Twitter page, claimed that Wizkid and Burna Boy sampled his song titled ‘Twist and Turn’ for ‘Ginger’, a track from ‘Made In Lagos’.
“This is my song #twistandturn, you both sampled to make that GINGER @wizkidayo @burnaboy. Una for at least give me a call make una no do like Banky,” he wrote.
In a follow-up post on Tuesday, Blackface shared a video of what he said to be the original version of the song to back up his claims.
“There you have it @wizkidayo @burnaboy. You guys are breaking my heart when I respect and love you guys so much. Call me,” he wrote.
This is not the first time Blackface would be calling out his colleagues in the music industry over alleged intellectual theft.
In April, the ex-Plantation Boiz member had also accused Wizkid and Banky W of stealing his song titled ‘Like My Way’.
The Benue-born singer had earlier called out 2Baba over alleged song theft with respect to the 2004 hit ‘African Queen’.
His latest accusation has since garnered reactions from Nigerians with some asking him why he waited for two years before calling the singers out.
A tweep, Marcus of Lagos wrote: “A song that was released 2yrs ago? You’re just hearing it now? Bro stop it abeg 😏”
@Charlselaw said WizKid and Burna Boy should at least give credit to Blackface.
He said: “This @Blackfacenaija is so so talented, let’s be factual, they sampled his track no doubt and credit should have at least been given to him.”
Another tweep, @stagerjay said: “No single lyrics from your wack song was sampled on Ginger, the instrumental is not even similar. So how did they sampled your wack song? Bro go get a life, you be OG, you no suppose dey move like this.”
Alabi asked why musicians are always stealing Blackface songs. “Why are they always “stealing” Blackface’ songs? 😂😂” he said.
Chidi Okereke, while also commenting on the post, mocked the singer, saying: “I am certain that if I release a song today, blackface will say I stole it from him.”
