IBADAN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – The much anticipated movie premiere of “Elesin Oba: King’s Horseman” was held in Lagos on Friday night, 28 October, 2022.
“Elesin Oba: The King’s Horseman” had its premiere at EbonyLife Place, Lagos, drawing out the film’s stars, filmmakers, and special guests.
Set in the old Oyo Empire, between sunset and sunrise, the king’s horseman, Elesin Oba, must commit ritual suicide to follow his deceased master into the afterlife.
However, his best intentions are derailed by his sexual desires, which leads to catastrophic consequences and ends in a deadly clash with the British rulers of the day.
The horseman is unable to fulfill his ultimate commitment to the king, leaving his spirit to roam the earth, spelling doom for the land and its people.
The original ‘Death and the King’s Horseman’ was a stage play written by Nobel laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka.
This marks the first time that one of Soyinka’s works has been made into a feature film.
It was also the last project by the late Biyi Bandele.
The film stars Odunlade Adekola as Elesin Oba, Shaffy Bello as Iyaloja, Deyemi Okanlawon, Omowumi Dada, Jide Kosoko, Taiwo Ajai-Lycett; and singer, Brymo.
Omowunmi Dada was spotted on the red carpet of the movie premiere in an extravagant orange headgear, which was a show-stopper.
Also in attendance were Odunlade Adekola, Deyemi Okanlawon, Shaffy Bello, Efa Iwara, Tomike Adeoye, Genoveva Umeh, Kate Henshaw, Dakore Egbuson-Akande, and so many others.
One of the celebrity guests at the event, Deyemi Okanlawon, caught the attention of many over how he greeted his senior colleague in the industry, Odunlade Adekola.
Deyemi spotted the actor and fully prostrated to greet him at the event and Odunlade in turn quickly held him to stop him from going all the way down.
Odunlade also reciprocated Deyemi’s gesture by bending to greet him before both men stood up and hugged each other before taking photos for the many cameras present. Both men also represented their Yoruba culture well with their agbada outfits made from strong traditional materials.
