IBADAN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nollywood actress, Adesua Etomi Wellington has bagged an honorary doctorate degree at the University of Wolverhampton in the United Kingdom.
The movie star was awarded the honorary degree by the university for her laudable achievements in arts and culture.
Adesua who graduated from the institution with a degree in Drama and Performance in 2009, was awarded a doctorate degree in Arts 13 years later.
The proud actress shared highlights of the ceremony with her millions of followers via IG on Tuesday, 6 September, 2022.
Among those who attended the ceremony were her husband, Bankole Wellington ‘Banky W’ and their son.
Her friend and colleague, Jemima Osunde was also present, alongside other family members.
According to a statement by the varsity, the ‘King Of Boys’ star is recognised for āher phenomenal contribution to arts and cultureā.
āAdesua Etomi-Wellington, a Nigerian Nollywood actor, who graduated with a degree in Drama & Performance in 2009 from the University, has been awarded a Doctor of Arts in recognition of her phenomenal contribution to arts and culture,ā the statement reads.
“Adesua is one of the most in-demand, versatile, and successful talents from the African continent. She has starred in many of the most successful Nollywood blockbuster movies of all time and has a global following of millions on Social Media.ā
The actress also spoke about her time as a student at the institution.
āMy experience at Wolverhampton was literally life-changing ā it is the foundation upon which my career has been built,ā the actress said.
“When I enrolled on my course in 2006 I was not confident at all. There is silent confidence that comes as a result of being informed and knowledgeable. I was taught to believe in my natural abilities but also put those abilities to good use. I was taught that talent is great but you need to be hard working to achieve it.
āThis award is very humbling for me and I hope that it inspires prospective and current students to pursue careers in the creative industries.ā
Etomi has now joined the list of doctorate degree holders in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
In August, Ireti Doyle and Bob-Manuel Udokwu received honorary doctorate degrees from the ISCG University in the Benin Republic.
IK Ogbonna, Hilda Dokubo, and Keppy Ekpenyong also bagged honorary doctorate degrees in June from the ISTM University in Togo.
