The IGP asserted that the establishment of State Police could worsen ethnic tensions and create divided loyalty within the states.
He also cautioned against the possibility of multiple command structures and potential abuse of power by governors for political gain.
Egbetokun proposed merging the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) into a department within the Police Force instead.
He further advocated for the annual recruitment of 30,000 police personnel and increased budgetary allocation to meet international policing standards.
