ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- A rowdy scene unfolded during the Senate’s return to plenary on Tuesday, with senators embroiled in a heated dispute over seating arrangements.
The session commenced at 11 am, with Senate President GodsWill Akpabio announcing lawmakers who celebrated birthdays during the break.
Tensions set in when Senator Sahabi Yau (APC, Zamfara North) clashed with Senate leader Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central), followed by Danjuma Goje (APC, Gombe Central), over seating allocations managed by Senate Services Chairman Sunday Karimi (APC, Kogi West).

Goje immediately, joined his colleague Yau, in shouting at Bamidele and the chairman, of Senate Services, Sunday Karimi (APC, Kogi West) who was in charge of the seating arrangements.
The conflict arose from dissatisfaction with seating positions in the recently refurbished chamber, particularly among senior senators allocated front-row seats on the right side, Punch reports.
Despite the Senate President’s attempts to mediate, the disruption persisted for about 20 minutes.
Following Akpabio’s address, the Senate resolved to convene a closed-door and subsequently an executive session.
The Senate had initially adjourned plenary until April 16, but rescheduled twice to accommodate the chamber’s renovation, ongoing since 2022.
