LAGOS,Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) –Veteran Kannywood actress, Saratu Gidado, affectionately known as Daso is dead.
Gidado was said to have died on Tuesday morning in Kano in her sleep, according to her family.
According to family members, 56 years old Daso was discovered deceased after returning to bed following Sahur, the pre-dawn meal consumed before fasting during the holy month of Ramadan.
Executive Secretary, of Kano State Censorship Board. Alhaji Abba El-Mustapha, has expressed grief over her death.
In a statement by the board’s Information Officer, Abdullahi Sulaiman, El-Mustapha described her death as a great loss not only to her immediate family and the Kannywood industry but to the entire Muslim ummah.

“Today, Kannywood has lost a veteran actress, a mother and a philanthropist. We will miss her dearly.”
Born on 17 January, 1968, Gidado was a Nigerian film actress, primarily in the Kannywood film industry.
Gidado was born in Gombe State, northern Nigeria. She attended her primary school in Kano state.
She was the first married woman in the Kannywood industry.
Aside from acting, Gidado was assigned as the protocol officer (Jakadiya) to the emir of Kano State Muhammad Sanusi II in the year 2016.
She was known for the role she always played as an aggressive and mischievous actress who defied all odds to rise to stardom.
Gidado made her film debut in 2000 in Linzami Da Wuta, produced by Sarauniya Movies. Other hits such as Nagari, Gidauniya, Mashi, and Sansani followed.
